Oh Oh. The Covid-19 virus has struck the island and forced the decision to close our dance season until further notice. The following is the email all club members should have received:
I am saddened to bring you this news but I believe it is in the best interests of all club members and new dancer class members to do so. I apologize to those of you who may receive this e-mail more than once but I just didn’t have the energy to develop a distribution list to eliminate duplicates. After much discussion and consideration of the current situation regarding the Covid 19 virus outbreak and the recommendations of health authorities, both Federal and Provincial, the executive of the Frontier Twirlers have unanimously decided to suspend the club’s current dance season until further notice. This will include all remaining new dancer classes and remaining club dances. New dancer classes will be made up at a later date when it is possible. Club dances will be cancelled until further notice based on the situation with Covid 19 and the recommendations of health professionals. I know that some of you are in opposition to this move and some are in favor. Be that as it may, we have come to the conclusion that in order to take the high road on this matter, we will ere on the side of caution. A number of other clubs on the island have taken the same stand and will be suspending operations until further notice. I am sure there will be written reports of their decisions forthcoming. Some of the clubs in the Nanaimo area and the Ripple Rockets of Campbell River are acting in this accord. I have received word from the executive of the Ripple Rockets that they will be making a determination at some date in the future of whether or not the Blast Off weekend will be held this year. There are of course clubs who choose to continue dancing and that is their prerogative. As for Linda and myself, we will be taking the advice of the health officials and “Self Isolate” ourselves to minimize the risk of contracting this bug and hopefully aid in the slow down of the spreading of this horrendous virus. It was pointed out to the gathering of the LVIWSRDA and the CTA at their joint meeting on Sunday that it is all well and good to cough or sneeze into your elbow so as not to blow germs across the room. This action however still plants the germs on your arm or sleeve where they can be picked up by a fellow dancer simply by doing a Left Allemande or a Turn Thru. Hand cleaning is critical but think of the ways that this bug can be spread other than hand touching. I will try to issue updates on the position of the club as time goes on. They will be based on the advice and recommendations of health authorities as they follow the progress or reduction of the disease. I regret that this decision had to be made by the club but be assured that your health and that of your fellow dancers is of primary importance to us and this is one way of hopefully curbing the spread of this virus. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We will be back dancing as soon as possible. In the mean time, wash your hands and be cautious of how you communicate with others by “social distancing”. Stay safe! |
